How Smart Watering helped save 30% on water consumption in 400 hectares orchard.

FIND OUT WHAT SMART WATERING IS AND HOW IT CAN HELP YOU IN YOUR ORCHARD

If you have had the opportunity to hear what Smart Watering is up to now, this text will tell you in detail whether and how smart irrigation can help you reduce the production costs in your orchard.

If you are hearing about smart irrigation for the first time, be sure to read and learn about state-of-the-art precision irrigation technology.

DO YOU HAVE HIGH OPERATIONAL COST AND LOW YIELD?
SO MUCH WORK TO DO AND TOO LITTLE TIME?

These are all problems that plague you and other farmers, as well as us because we were farmers ourselves and decided to do something about it.

Smart Watering is a device that brings automated irrigation to the palm of your hand.

Its goal is to save water, allow each plant to get the fertilizer to the extent it needs, save the time it takes to manually turn on and off irrigation, save money, and take years of effort to achieve the perfect balance.

IT CONSIST OF 2 PARTS

A DEVICE TO BE PLACED ON AN EXISTING DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM

AN APPLICATION INSTALLED ON MOBILE PHONE

The Smart Watering Device represents “the heart” of the smart irrigation system. It manages irrigation equipment and performs measurement and processing of sensor data.

One measuring station is set up in each zone in the field

Each station measures soil moisture on the basis of which the application itself switches the irrigation of those zones on and off. It is up to the user to adjust for each zone the optimum humidity to be maintained and the application continues to do everything on its own – including equipment operation in the field and changing the irrigation sections as needed.

Putem senzora protoka u svakom trenutku imaš uvid u stvarno stanje na parceli a u slučaju zastoja dobijaš obaveštenje na svoj mobilni telefon i tek tada izlaziš na teren i rešavaš problem.

Through the flow sensor at any time you have an insight into the real situation on the plot and in case of a deadlock you get a notification on your mobile phone and only then you go out into the field and solve the problem.

That’s how you get precise data from the field

Real-time data allows you to accurately manage your agricultural production. It helps you make the most of what you have and get the best results that will bring you the most profit.

The idea of Smart Watering was born back in 2015, when the founders of the company, Zoran and Lazar, were students. Lazar then planted a hazelnut in his hometown and had trouble managing irrigation without being physically present on the farm. Since they were both at technical colleges, they sat down and together they made the first version of the Smart Watering remote irrigation device.

The original idea remained the same to this day, being able to have monitoring and control of irrigation from one place. It just transformed and turned into an application for smart irrigation management, and evolved into something that enables complete irrigation automation.

Currently we have more than 30 happily customers in Serbia, among which is the biggest fruit producer, Delta Agrar

Delta Agrar has this system installed in the largest apple orchard in this part of Europe. Their one-year experience with this system has given the following results

Direct water savings of 30%, reduced costs in the form of less manpower required in the field, with increased plant lushness and maximum crop quality.

Interested fruit producers had the opportunity to come to this orchard in Celarevo, Serbia and look at the device, how and where it is placed, and ask directly those responsible for this orchard how and how much it helps.

Here are some of the questions from the visit:

Edin – “The water is a scarce resource, we have increasing oscillations, and some experiences from previous years can hardly be attributed to the coming year. Any water savings means to us. We in Bosnia generally do not have much water problems, but there are some parts that have large excess water while other parts have problems. There are 200 meters of drinking water in the area where I live. We think this system would help us to make the most of what we have. “

Balaz – “What is the maximum number of zones the system can operate?” – 16 zones. In theory, more can be done, but in practice it is difficult to achieve.

Armin – “Did you notice better fruit quality instead of saving water and labor in the orchard?” – We have positive results, as evidenced by the results in this orchard. The plant is a living organism, and like any organism has its own needs for water and nutrients. When the plant is in optimal condition, it brings you the best results. If you give it too much water, it will suffocate the plant and drought. If you give it too little water, a different process, but again the plant dries. In addition to the yield for that year, you are losing for the time being. The goal is to bring the plants and plants to the optimum condition for maximum yield.

Srdjan – “Can you save on fertilizer?” – If you add nutrients by fertigation through a precision irrigation system, nutrition is saved. In accordance with the culture you cultivate, you determine the depth of soil in which optimal humidity is to be maintained, usually the zone where the root system is most active. Precise determination of the optimum amount of water and precise dosing results in maximum utilization of nutrients introduced. As a result, you do not add too much water, so no nutrient leakage into the subsoil can occur. Also, your plant will never be thirsty, and there is no fear of drought.

Srdjan – “What do I need to be able to use Smart Watering?” – You need a drip irrigation system. The application works through GPRS. You need to be connected to the Internet to access the application itself, turn it on, shut it down, and see the information.
